MedLegal Authority was founded by Dr. James Calvin “J. Calvin” Johnson, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with more than 35 years of clinical experience and over 26,000 surgical procedures performed. Following a distinguished medical career, Dr. Johnson transitioned into medical-legal work, completing more than 2,000 independent medical examinations (IMEs) and providing expert testimony in legal proceedings.
Today, MedLegal Authority operates as a structured medical-legal network, connecting attorneys and legal teams with qualified physicians across multiple specialties, including orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, and internal medicine. This network allows for comprehensive case evaluations when additional expertise is required.
The organization also works with Legal Nurse Consultants (LNCs) who support case analysis through medical record review, documentation assessment, and evaluation of standards of care. By combining physician expertise with clinical analysis, MedLegal Authority ensures each case is reviewed with both medical accuracy and legal relevance.
